Half a Dozen reasons the Sixth Doctor was sacked.
Sixth Doctor
Tenure: 1984-1986
Portrayed by: Colin Baker & Sylvester McCoy
That costume.
Colin himself describes the garish garb he was thrown out in as an explosion in a rainbow factory and in no uncertain terms diminished any drama this doc might have had. All courtesy of John Nathan Turner.
Increasing violence.
The amounts of violence on the show had been getting a little silly, and came to a head when The Doctor used a weapon on one of the Cybermen, something the Doc deplores. This resulted in a hiatus, all thanks to John Nathan Turner.
The worst first episode in TV history.
The Twin Dilemma is generally regarded as the worst episode of Who in the known universe, as for amongst other things it tears away everything that made The Doctor The Doctor and starts by strangling Peri. Good one Turner.
A failed First reboot.
Nathan Turner in the new Doc decided to reboot the moody and argumentative Doctor that made Hartnell popular, unfortunately it backfired as most the writers of the period were second rate has-beens. As such The Doctor's character was just an abrasive catastrophe.
A poor working relationship
The companion and The Doctor are kindred roles that look out for one another, though in the case of the Sixth Doctor and Peri, the relationship was altogether more astringent. Cases of arguments, jokes, patronising and physical abuse made the relationship seem rocky and unsavoury. Not to mention unrealistic.
Nathan
Baker is often blamed for his own downfall but it's fairer to say it was the contribution of the head of show, touchy viewers and a really drugged design department that really nailed this one home, as such, it's in this period mainly we see how Turner did more bad than good,
